I was commissioned by Eleven Design to create over 400 icons for their client Catapult Energy Systems. The icons needed to be used internally and externally across print, digital and social channels. The icons needed to be inclusive of gender, ethnicity and disability and showcase every aspect of the company across business, finance, transport, people, product and place.

 

I created a language and grid system to inform the way each element would be drawn. It was important to me to show what can be thought of as traditionally boring and complex structures such as electricity pylons in a simple and beautiful way, using minimal geometric shapes and lines. I wanted each icon to work at a small scale, and at the same time work as an illustration if used at larger scale or as element within larger illustration. 

 

Energy Systems Catapult has been set up to accelerate the transformation of the UK’s energy system and ensure UK businesses and consumers capture the opportunities of clean growth on the way to Net Zero. They are an independent, not-for-profit centre of excellence that bridges the gap between industry, government, academia and research.
